Indian teenage sensation R Praggnanandhaa once again got the better of world number one Magnus Carlsen as he defeated the Norwegian in Meltwater Champions Chess Tour on Friday (May 20).
Months after getting the better of World No.1 Chess player Magnus Carlsen, India's teenage prodigy R Praggnanandhaa has repeated the heroics from earlier this year by beating Carlsen for the second time in a span of few months. The 16-year-old from India had defeated Carlsen in February to register his first win over the Norwegian champion.  Praggnanandhaa had emerged victorious at the online chess tournament, Airthings Masters.  The game was heading towards a dud draw but in his 40th move, Carlsen made a blunder by moving his knight and Praggnanandhaa capitalised by placing his rook in front Carlsen's king as the World No.1, realising his mistake as soon as he moved his knight, resigned from the game on the spot.  Impressed with the teenager's performance, fans came in numbers to appreciate the feat achieved by Praggnanandhaa on social media.   The teenager had recently tweeted that he is busy with his class 11th board exams but did not want to miss a tournament like Meltwater Champions. Praggnanandhaa finished Day 2 of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour at fifth place with 12 points after registering three wins, three losses and a couple of draws. After the win, the teenage prodigy said he is not too happy with his game and wants to be a bit sharper in the coming matches.  “I’m not so thrilled about my game quality. I’m missing some stuff, some tricks and some tactics so tomorrow I need to be sharper,” Praggnanandhaa was quoted as saying by Chess24.com.After the win over Carlsen, Praggnanandhaa also defeated England's Gawain Jones on the same day and drew with 36-year-old Indian Grand Master Pentala Harikrishna.
