Answer (1 of 10): Because it can reach a really really long ways. When I was in sniper school I repeatedly hit a vehicle at >2,700 meters (~1.75 miles). Dropped them right through the windshield. It is hard to picture how far this is, seriously get out google maps and find something that far away
